Lil' Critter - Decoder install - Installation d'un décodeur

Another tiny loc with little space to spare. I didn't want to get rid of the original metal weights as otherwise, the pulling power would be too weak.

The choosen sounddecoder is a QSI Aristocraft model wih RS-3 sounds. It's normally plug & play with Aristocraft locs, but this loc doesn't feature a DCC board, so I had to find a substitute to fix it in the loc body.

I soldered it to half of a dummy Bachmann 2-6-6-2 board which has already the necessary wired connecteds to it. A 12x12mm (3/8"x3/8") wood block is just fine to screw the boards to the weights: it leaves enough space to squeeze a small 2W speaker undeneath it, spot on the square cutout where the former wiring came from the wheels and to the motor.

qsi-critter-5.jpgI had to drill two new holes in the chassis to redirect the wiring from the track pickup and to the motor. As you can see, the speaker is securely tucked under the decoder board. to avoid any short-circuit , I put a piece of insulated tape on the back of the speaker coil.

Here is a overall view of the decoder and speaker. Everything fits into the hood of the loc, so nothing will show in the cab.
